Alpine Church Covenant
Why a church covenant?
Alpine has a church covenant so that we can put words to what our goal for church membership is.
We desire that the church benefits you in hundreds of ways! But we also see the New Testament teaching that to be a faithful disciple of Christ is to not only attend a local church, but also serve the members of your local church.
Our covenant is simply putting words on how we are to love and serve one another at Alpine Baptist Church.
If you’d like more information, listen to our sermon on Why Church Membership Matters.
Having been brought by grace to repent and believe in Jesus Christ and to give up ourselves to Him, and having been baptized, we do now joyfully renew our covenant with each other.
Love & Pray
We will work and pray for the unity of the Spirit within our church. (Eph 4:1-3)
We will live together in Christian love, exercising affectionate care and watchfulness over each other, encouraging each other to forsake sin and pursue holiness. (Rom 12:10, 16:17-18; Gal 6:1-2; Matt 18:15-17; Jas 5:19-20; Col 3:16; Heb 3:12-13; 1 Thess 5:11;)
We will extend to each other the grace shown to us in Christ Jesus, remaining slow to take offense and quick to seek reconciliation. (Eph 4:2)
We will commit to pray for each other, to bear each other’s burdens, to rejoice and mourn together, and to seek mutual discipleship in community. (Heb 10:23-25; Eph 6:18; 1 Thess 5:17, 25)
Be Continually Sanctified
We will remember that we still battle our flesh, so we ask for God’s grace, which cleanses us of our sins and leads us on the journey of sanctification. Forsaking a spirit of harsh judgment, for the ground at the cross is level. (Luke 18:9-14; Rom 5:1-11)
We will seek to live carefully in the world, as those being transformed by the gospel, showing through our conduct that we have died to sin and been raised to new life in Christ Jesus. (Eph 5:15; Tit 2:12; Rom 6:4; 1 Thess 4:7; 1 Pet 1:13-25)
We will strive to raise those under our care in the knowledge and love of the Lord, and by word and loving example seek the salvation of our families and friends. (Deut 6:1-12; 11:18-20; Matt 6:6; Eph 6:4; Mk 5:19; Eph 5:15)
We will faithfully attend the meetings of the church (Heb 10:23-25; Eph 6:18; 1 Thess 5:17, 25)
Serve & Give
We will devote our time and abilities for the good of the church, and we will joyfully contribute to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of those less fortunate, and the spread of the gospel through all nations. (Eph 2:21-22; Heb 10:25; Matt. 28:19-20; 1 Cor 11:24-34; Rom 16:17; 2 Thess 3:6; 1 Cor 5; Acts 2:42; 2 Jn 1:9-11; Gal 6:6; Acts 11:29; Acts 1:8)
We will, when we move from this place, notify this congregation and covenant with another church faithful to the principles of God’s Word. (Acts 18:27-28; Rom 16:1-2; Col 3:23; Heb 10:24-25)
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.
